
Brian G. Roylett
Brian Roylett is Principal of RRM Advisory (RRM), an independent corporate governance, risk and resilience advisory firm specialising in programs for managing strategic and operational risk and crises for major private corporations and governments throughout Australasia and South-East Asia.
Brian holds professional qualifications in management and engineering disciplines, specialising in design and evaluation of corporate strategy, governance and risk management plans for high technology and defense industries, with an extensive background in resource sector projects throughout the Asia Pacific Region.
Brian has been instrumental in the establishment of new corporate risk management and joint venture businesses in United States, Argentina, Hong Kong and Peoples Republic of China. He has held Chief Executive roles in the Malaysian general insurance industry and for captive insurance companies in Singapore and the Offshore Financial Centre in Labuan, East Malaysia.
His international risk management experience includes assignments for governments and private sector corporations in Australia, New Zealand, United States, Argentina, United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Peoples Republic of China, Taiwan ROC, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, India, Indonesia and the Philippines.
Brian Roylett has extensive experience in risk related standards development with the Australian National Standards Body (NSB), Standards Australia and with ISO as an active participant in ISO TC 292 Security and resilience and its predecessor organization ISO 223 Societal security.
At the national level Brian was a foundation member of Standards Australia OB/7 Committee responsible for the development of AS/NZS 4360: Risk Management, a standard which provided the impetus for the internationally acclaimed ISO 31000 Risk management- Guidelines, in addition to representing industry on engineering related national manufacturing standards. He currently represents the global risk management professional body, RIMS Society on Standards Australia’s MB-025 Committee Security and Resilience, the NSB’s Mirror Committee to ISO 292 Societal security and is Chair of the MB025-2 Sub-Committee for Organizational Resilience. Brian is the Project Lead for Standards Australia’s recently approved AS5343 Decision Making During a Crisis – Principles and Guidelines.
Internationally, Brian represents Standards Australia on ISO TC 292: Security and Resilience and was WG2 Project Leader for ISO 22316-Organizational resilience -Principles and guidelines. He has worked extensively on a range of TC 292 Ad-Hoc Groups providing support to the TC292 Secretariat on strategy, scope, road maps and defining areas for future standards development
Brian is a member of ISO TC 292’s Working Groups on Terminology, Continuity and resilience, Emergency Management, Community resilience. More recently he is Co-Convener for ISO 31050 Managing Emerging Risks, a Joint Working Group initiated by TC 262 Risk management.
Brian is the nominated Standards Australia Project Leader for ISO 22360, Crisis Management- Concepts, Principles and Guidelines.
Appointed by the Commonwealth Attorney General’s Department, Brian is a Member of the Australian Government Resilient Infrastructure Advisory Group for Critical Infrastructure under the administration of the Department of Home Affairs. In this capacity Brian participated in the development of the Australian Government Guide – Decision Making During a Crisis.
He was the principal author of Commonwealth Procurement Guideline No. 8 Managing Risk in Procurement, on behalf of the Commonwealth Department of Administrative Services, Australian Government
Brian Roylett is a Member of a several international risk management associations, including Institute of Engineers Australia Risk Engineering Society and the Risk and Insurance Management Society USA.
Brian is a past President, Board Chairman and Director of the Risk Management Institution of Australasia Limited, the peak industry body for risk management professionals in the Asia Pacific Region. He also served as Director and Vice-President, International Federation of Risk and Insurance Management Associations Inc. (IFRIMA). He is currently Director, Honorary Executive Officer and Company Secretary of RIMS Australasia Chapter, the peak industry body for risk and insurance management professionals in the Asia Pacific Region.
